Lyon is a major city in south-eastern France and the second most important city in France after Paris. With 522,250 inhabitants in the city center, Lyon is the third largest city center in the country after Paris and Marseille. Lyon is also the core city of the Métropole de Lyon, which has 1,424,069 inhabitants. Lyon's gastronomy enjoys a worldwide reputation. The diversity of its traditional cuisine has its origins in the rare combination of proximity to the Alps and navigable access to the Mediterranean.
