Expenses

What does it cost to study?

Semester fee

Every student has to pay a semester fee. This contribution helps to keep student facilities functioning and available.

The semester fee for the winter semester 2024/25 amounts to a total of 149.00 euros.

The contribution is made up of the following:

  • EUR 70.00 Administration fee
  • EUR 54.00 Student services
  • EUR 25.00 Constituted students' union

The fees must be paid at the beginning of each semester

Tuition fees

  • There are no tuition fees for citizens of EU/EEA countries and refugees
  • International students from non-EU/EEA countries have to pay a tuition fee of EUR 1.500 per semester

Living costs

Students in Germany spend an average of €842 per month on living expenses*. These costs can vary significantly depending on your place of residence and lifestyle, but can roughly be calculated as follows:

  • Accommodation:
  • Groceries: starting at €175/month
  • Semester fee: €149/semester
  • Health insurance (provided you do not already have a European Health Insurance Card): ca. €125/month
  • Broadcasting fee (GEZ-Gebühr): ca. €19/month
  • Communication (telephone, Internet etc.): ca. €30/month

This overview takes all necessary expenses into account – all other costs (for example for travelling, shopping, eating out and events) obviously vary from student to student.
