The Bachelor of Engineering Informatics is the basis for future key technologies in information technology. "Digitisation is a challenge for engineers – because it creates new things and makes old things obsolete. Industries such as automotive and electrical engineering are experiencing completely new developments." (Source: www.ingenieur.de)

In the engineering informatics degree programme, you will learn to analyse, structure and design system-related contexts,

  •     think and act in an interdisciplinary way,
  •     work together as a team,
  •     work at system interfaces,
  •     to master and apply the necessary technical principles from the fields of electrical engineering and information technology, mathematics and computer science.

At HHN, you learn in a practical way and start building your professional network with companies in the region.

Career Prospects

The Bachelor of Engineering Informatics is an application-oriented university degree programme that combines scientific training in engineering, especially electrical and information technology, with computer science, equipping its graduates for the challenges of the future. Effective solutions for innovative products can only be developed if the decision between a hardware or a more flexible software implementation is based on a solid knowledge of both disciplines. In summary, this results in a particularly sustainable training programme that qualifies students for both: a career in industry and for a subsequent master's degree. Graduates are in demand in system development for hardware and software and represent a link between engineers and computer scientists.

Course Structure

The study programme is divided into the following sections:

The main focus of the basic studies is on mathematical and scientific principles, electrical engineering, computer science and information technology.
In the main studies, the focus will be on the applications of engineering informatics. In the 5th semester, you will then complete a practical semester in industry, either in Germany or abroad. In the advanced study programme and the final bachelor's thesis, you can concentrate on your interests and strengths.

Engineering Basics:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Informatics & Information Technology
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Digital Systems
  • Computer Architectures
  • Network Systems
  • Engineering Mechanics

Information Technology

  • Software Technology
  • Distributed Systems
  • Embedded Systems
  • Software development project

Engineering

  • Mathematics
  • Systems Theory
  • Metrology and control engineering
  • Electives, e.g. Model-based software development, Industrial Internet of Things, Programmable logic modules, …

The newly acquired knowledge and skills are then applied in the internship semester, during which students work independently on specific tasks in an industrial company.

  •     Practical experience in an industrial company
  •     concrete tasks from the engineering profession
  •     independent work
  •     engineering environment
  •     Contact with experienced engineers
  •     Salary
  •     also possible abroad

In the specialisation phase, you have a great deal of freedom of choice and can set your own priorities based on the insights gained during the internship semester. You can also attend lectures from other degree programmes of the faculty. Of course, management contents and soft skills are also covered.

  •     Seminar paper
  •     Artificial intelligence and its applications
  •     Systems Engineering and Technical Management
  •     Technical electives
  •     Bachelor's thesis

The final stage of the study programme is the bachelor's thesis, in which a project is planned, organised and carried out independently at the university or in collaboration with a company.

Completing your bachelor's degree allows you to start your career or, if you prefer, to continue your studies in one of our master's programmes. After completing your bachelor's degree, you have the option of immediately continuing your studies in a master's programme to further deepen your specialist knowledge and then completing your master's degree with your master's thesis. Once you have completed your master's degree, you can also pursue a doctorate through university partnerships.

Specialisations

Possible Specialisations:

  • Articial Intelligence and its applications
  • Systems Engineering and Technical Management
  • Further Technical Electives
  • International Perspectives of Engineering Informatics
