What exactly is the Master's program Software Engineering about? What are the main focuses, how does the program structure look like and what career prospects do graduates of this Master have? These and many more answers can be found in the "Good to know" section.
The M.Sc. Software Engineering has been tailored to the needs of students who are interested in interdisciplinary approaches and seek a good foundation for their future careers. It enables them to interact effectively, confidently and responsibly in increasingly complex, multidimensional work environments of software development - anywhere on the globe.
At the heart of complex, multi-dimensional organizations, software engineering involves more than just the development of modern information systems. Consequently, software engineers need to move beyond the boundaries of their job-specific expertise and enhance their professional profiles by acquiring managerial and interpersonal competences.
Software engineers who aim to be future business leaders should not only possess such multiple skills, but should be able to translate theoretical knowledge into business practices, engender interdisciplinary dialogues and communicate successfully in an international and intercultural environment.
The M.Sc. Software Engineering has been planned for a full-time study and can be obtained in three semester, so in 18 months.
The first two semesters provide a sound theoretical basis. Using case studies and working in teams not only improves analytical and problem solving capacities but familiarizes the students with methodological and creative problem-solving techniques and the relational skills which are vital for future business leaders.
As subject knowledge, the Master´s Program embrace computer science, applied software engineering, information systems in business as well as leadership, interpersonal and intercultural competences.
The third semester is dedicated to the Master’s Thesis which is accompanied by a colloquium.
Exchange semesters and/or internships are not compulsory. But, if you decide to pass we will be glad to support you.
Academic partnerships and exchange programs with a number of universities all over the world allow the students to gain experience in an international software engineering context. Partner institutions of Heilbronn University are for example Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland, Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland and the Universidad Polytéchnica de Valencia in Spain.
Cooperating companies for an internship or your Master’s Thesis in the region of Heilbronn University are AUDI AG, Daimler AG, Bosch Engineering GmbH, Würth GmbH and SAP AG, just to mention only a few. Bye the way, the Master of Software Engineering has also been created in close consultation with business, industry and the engineering professions to ensure the employability of the prospective graduates.
The global world is characterized by steadily expanding world-wide networks, on the one hand, and a global shortage of IT experts, on the other. As a result, there is a growing demand for software engineers who can look forward to well-paid positions in industry. Thus, the job prospects for Master students in this field are highly promising.
Prospective employers of our graduates are internationally operating companies that require a broad range of skills as well as specific expertise in soft- ware development. Alternatively, there are job openings in small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, our graduates also will be well equipped to set up their own business.
